Two of the thousands of postcards that Nick Clegg will be receiving tomorrow morning were signed this afternoon in the House of Lords. One was signed by Baroness Doreen Lawrence, mother of Stephen Lawrence, who was made a life peer in 2013. If anyone knows the value of legal aid, it is her. The lawyer who has represented her family since Stephen’s murder in 1993 has warned that legal aid cuts planned by the Government will be a “disaster” for black Londoners. Labour’s Shadow Lord Chancellor and Shadow Secretary of State for Justice Sadiq Khan MP has said that without legal aid the killers of Stephen Lawrence would be free.
Another peer signing a postcard to Nick Clegg is Lord Roberts of Llandudno who speaks on migration, youth unemployment and Welsh affairs for the Liberal Democrats in the House of Lords.
